Naseeruddin Shah's first marriage at 19 to Parveen Murad, 15 years his senior, faced family opposition and financial strain due to a substantial alimony agreement. It took him over a decade to fulfill these obligations, a period during which he met Ratna Pathak. After a live-in relationship, Naseeruddin and Ratna married in 1982 and have been together ever since.
